Zero-Click Search

Searches that end without the user clicking through to any website.

Full definition

Zero-click search is what happens when a search result fully answers the user's question on the SERP — via a featured snippet, knowledge panel, AI Overview, or AI chat answer. The user gets what they came for and never clicks.

Why it matters

Zero-click is now a majority of all search traffic. The only way to capture brand value from zero-click results is to be the cited source — your brand name in the AI answer is the new click.

Example

Asking 'when does Daylight Saving end' on Google returns the date directly — no click required.

Frequently asked questions

Is Zero-Click Search the same as SEO?

No. Zero-Click Search is one piece of the broader GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) program that sits on top of classical SEO. The two work together — classical SEO gets you crawled and indexed; Zero-Click Search is part of what gets you cited by AI engines.

Do I need a tool to implement Zero-Click Search?

For most teams, a free scanner like OptimAIze is enough to identify what's missing. Implementation is usually a copy-paste of generated markup or a small code change — no specialist tool required.
